Reasonable Ideas: Suggestions for Reason 12
Think of anything else ?
Sequencer
- Add crossfade types (presets and custom)
- Add DAW-worthy functions ! (check out concurrent DAWs)
- Automation : Invert vertically (events, automation points)
- Automation : Presets (curves, shapes), customizable shapes
- Blocks : Improve display and navigation (direct access like Redrum's pattern selection)
- Group tracks / Track folders
- Humanize selected notes
- Join notes with the same pitch : e. g. select two contiguous C# 1/8th notes, join them into a 1/4th note (same key shortcut as Join Clips : Ctrl+J)
- Note Chase (see Ableton Live)
- Quantize length (end of MIDI events)
- Randomize pan
- Randomize velocity
- Scales & modes (same as Scales & Chords Player device, but live in the sequencer)
- Select notes per math functions (1 out of 3, etc.)
- Select velocities per range
- Strum selected notes
Devices / User Interface
- Browser : Audio preview for patches
- Browser : Audio preview for REX, WAV and AIFF loops, time-stretched, bar-synced to the song's tempo (when song is playing)
- Browser : Audio preview for songs
- Browser : Audio preview with waveform
- Browser : Faster indexing of favorite folders
- Browser : MIDI preview (based on FX on current selected track)
- Browser : Option to toggle horizontal/vertical display
- Browser : Option to toggle thumbnail for devices (Text/Graphics/Text+Graphics)
- Browser : Play the very first slice of REX loops
- Browser : Search : Save the "Current Location / All Locations" checkbox state and load it upon restart (or add a checkbox in the Settings window)
- Browser : Search by alias (users should be able to give an alias to each and every RE and VST plugin, e. g. "Radical Keys" could be called "Virtual Rhodes" or whatever)
- Browser : Search by tags (devices ?, samples, patches)
- Browser : Sort columns for Favorite folders (by Name, Parent, Date)
- Devices : All : Browse button : point to device's native (base) folder
- Devices : All : Randomize patch
- Devices : All : Toggle useless/unwanted animations (add a checkbox in the Settings window)
- Devices : Combinator 2 : Assign parameter through arrow click & drag (like Grain or Europa), instead of menu-diving
- Devices : Mimic : Group select slots, to edit parameters for multiple slots at the same time
- Devices : Mimic : Import and export REX loops
- Devices : Mimic : Per slot : Offset start (add virtual silence before a sample or slice)
- Devices : Mimic : Send sample to track (bounce)
- Devices : Mimic : Set loop direction as you can do on a regular sampler : FW / FW-BW / BW / BW-FW
- Devices : Mimic : Set loop points (start and end) like Grain : mouse drags or sets position of start or end loop point
- Devices : Players : Set mix channel's colour the same as the calling mix channel (or add a checkbox in the Settings window)
- UI : Colours : More application-wide, user-customizable colour schemes (we still have two options only, and they are fixed colour schemes !)
- UI : Colours : Replace colour names with a floating palette (check out concurrent DAWs : FL Studio or Studio One have GREAT options and features for colours)
- UI : Copy-Paste : Pasting another device's patch should replace with the right device. Say you copy a patch from a Kong, try and paste on a Redrum : "Paste patch" is disabled. It should be enabled, auto-detect the patch type, and create a Kong instead of the Redrum.
- UI : Key shortcuts : Escape key to close the VST window having the focus
- UI : Mixer : More room for track names (or narrow font)
- UI : Popup menus : Build your own menu system, on more than 1 column, with icons and find-as-you-type textbox
- UI : Tools window : Rebuild it from scratch ; Add DAW-worthy features ; Make textboxes modern, so we can mouse-scroll values
- VST : "Keep open" icon : checked by default (or add an option to choose default state)
- VST : Scan VST folders without closing Reason
